This past Saturday the Huskies traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY where they competed against East Coast crews competing for the highly sought-after Fish Head Plaque, commemorating a win over an event.
For the first time in UConn Crew history, the Husky 1st Varsity 4+ beat out the likes of WPI, BC, UMass, and the 3 Ivy-League Columbia boats to win the Men’s Collegiate 4+ event against 45 other entries and win its first Fish Head.
The 3 Novice 8+s were fast as well with the A boat placing 5th, the B boat placing 4th, and the C boat beating 11 boats! This caps off the fastest Novice class that UConn has ever had.
The Varsity 8+s followed suit with the 1st Varsity 8+ posting a time less than three seconds off 3rd place and the 2nd Varsity 8+ placing 14th in a strong event.
The Novice 4+ capped off the successful regatta with the last race placing 3rd in their event of 21 boats.
This final regatta marks a historic season for the UConn Men’s Crew team. The high energy during this season is being transferred to winter condition where the team will build its strength in preparation for the important and competitive spring season. The team would like to thank everyone who came out to support the team especially including the parents who contributed to the food at the regattas! We hope to see everyone in the spring season!
