This past weekend, the team traveled to Lowell, Massachusetts to compete in the Patriot Cup, a race against each of the New England state schools. This annual regatta allows the Huskies to test their speed against UMass Amherst, URI, UVM, UNH, and UMass Lowell.
The 1V8+ raced an amazing race, holding first place for the first 1500m of the race. Even though they were edged out of a first place finish during the sprint by UMass Amherst and URI, they were only 3 seconds off of first place, as vast improvement over last year. The 1V8+ is back on the water this week, practicing with a renewed motivation and hunger for speed after this weekend’s strong performance.
The 1N8+ also showed improvement this weekend, proving that they are building speed and becoming a competitive lineup. They lost to URI by less than 3 seconds, and won against UMass Lowell by more than 12. The entire novice class is looking forward to the remainder of the season and continued success.
The 2V8+ and 2N8+ raced hard, showing that they are determined to keep working in preparation for the upcoming Knecht Cup. Even though the team didn’t walk away with a first place finish, all boats are making the preparations necessary to come back stronger and faster after each week of practice.
