Huskies round out regular season with Spring Metropolitan and New England Championships

UConn Men’s Crew had a stellar Saturday at Orchard Beach Lagoon. The annual Spring Metropolitan Championships in Pelham, NY yielded no disappointment as three separate boats placed in podium positions.

The Huskies took the Men’s Varistiy 8+ event by storm, advancing ALL THREE boats to the grand final. The 1v8+ went on to place first, the 2V8 took second, and the 3V8 finished fifth. On the novice side, the N Men’s LWT 4+ placed an impressive second in the open Novice 4+ category

Following a rigorous exam week for the student-athletes, the team traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA for the New England Rowing Championships. Due to an unfortunate overlap between graduation and the regatta, lineups had to be rearranged but a successful day of racing was still had.

The 2V4+ & 3V4+, after their first time trial experiences in the morning, both went on to win their petite finals. 2V8+ raced hard in their heat to finish 4th and earn a spot in the petite final, where they finished 6th. The 1V8+ placed 5th in their heat to progress to the 3rd final, where they finished 2nd.

Next up are the ACRA National Championships. A year of racing and training leads up to this high-stakes race in Gainesville, Georgia. The Huskies will be sending the 1V8+, Lightweight 4+, Novice Lightweight 4+, Quad, and Double. Updates on this regatta will follow.
