UConn Novices Win GOLD at Head of the Riverfront!

UConn Novices Win GOLD at Head of the Riverfront!

On Sunday October 6, UCMC took a quick trip to Hartford, CT to participate in the first race of the Fall Season, The Head of the Riverfront Regatta! In total, UCMC entered two Varsity 8+s, one Novice 8+, a Novice 4+, and a Varsity 4+. This is one of the most significant races of the entire year, not for notoriety or prizes, but because this is the first regatta some of our Novices have ever attended!

We also had two 8+s of UCMC Alumni participate in the regatta, representing UConn in the Men’s College Alumni Category. Only two boats were registered for the category, and both were from UConn. It’s a comfort to know that despite not having any Competition, UConn Men’s Crew Alums still love to represent!

These Alumni include:

Andrew Schroder, Chris Kilborn (‘15), Dan Fitzgerald (‘21), Harry Godfrey-Fogg (‘20), Peter Douglass (‘22), Eric Burt (‘17), Sean Rescsanski, Philip Hnatowicz (‘16), Jansen van Arsdale (‘18), Will Carlson (‘21), John Drago, Jack Fritch (‘19), Tim Rodrigue, Alex Calvi (‘20), Hamza Aslam (‘15), and Dmytro Kusen (‘22), Tyler Krasusky, and Annie Makuch.

And of course, it would be hard not to mention this Regatta’s MVPs: Our very own Novice 4+ placed 1st in their category, earning them all Gold Medals! We asked Novice Coxswain Nicolette Silva about her thoughts on the race:

“It feels great to win Gold! I know that the rowers hated it though. You could tell that by the end of it, they were tired. I loved every second of it, I was screaming my lungs out!”

The next Regatta we will be attending is the Head of the Housatonic in Shelton, CT on October 13. Can’t wait to get another race under our belts!
