Season Opener at The John Hunter Regatta
The Huskies spent their spring break in Summerton,SC at Camp Bob Cooper. This annual training trip was capped off by a trip to The John Hunter Regatta in Gainesville, GA. This course, the 1996 Olympic venue, treated the team well with four podium finishes.
The 1V8 and 2V8 both blazed to a first place finish in their respective semi-final heats. A few hours later, both were back out in the course to show Connecticut pride to the South. The First Varsity 8 received a bronze medal, falling to only Minnesota and Georgia Tech. The Second Varsity 8 out-sprinted Clemson for a silver medal.
The Men’s Lightweight 4 fought a hard battle with Minnesota, trading places from the starting line to the finish. Ultimately UConn crossed the line in 7:14.21 to Minnesota’s 7:14.87, for a silver medal. Last but certainly not least, was the Men’s Novice 4, beating out a packed heat for a bronze medal.
The Huskies departed Georgia with high spirits and excitement for what’s shaping up to be UConn Men’s Crew’s fastest and most medal-laden season yet.
