UConn Men’s Crew Closes Out Head Racing Season

On October 15th, UConn Men’s Crew participated in the Head of the Snake. The first event of the day was the Men’s 2x which placed third. Next up was the Men’s Novice 4+ which placed second. After that was the Men’s Novice 8+’s placing 3rd and 5th respectively. Finally, to close out the day were the Men’s Varsity 8+’s placing 16th and 25th out of a large field of 29.

The next weekend, the team traveled up to Boston for the Head of the Charles. Many members of the team volunteered to help us complete our 400 volunteering hours. On Sunday, the Varsity 8+ raced in the Men’s Collegiate Eight race. They started in the back of the pack with bow number 40 and after passing a number of boats finished 28th/41. While they didn’t get a bid for next year, we are proud of how they represented our team at such a competitive regatta.

The Varsity 8+ after the Head of the Charles

Last weekend UConn Men’s Crew made the trip up to Saratoga Springs, NY to compete in the Head of the Fish Regatta. After a two hour fog delay, and some delicious bagels and egg sandwiches, the fog cleared for a (uncharacteristically for the Fish) beautiful day for racing. The first event of the day was the Men’s Collegiate 2x where we placed 6th and 8th respectively. Next up was the Novice 8+ where our three boats placed 4th, 9th, and 14th. After that was the Men’s Collegiate 4+s, placing 15th and 23rd. In the afternoon, our varsity 8+ placed 11/16, and our second varsity 8+ placed 14/18. Finally, we finished out the day with the Novice 4+s which came in 4th, 6th, and 9th. This week the team looks forward to shifting focus to sprint work as we prepare for Fall Metropolitan Championships.
